Starbirthed's first new full-length release of 2021, the longform meditation "Reflections of the Samith" was recorded live within the reverberating, pink-hued, salt-lined walls of Montauk Salt Cave NYC in December 2019. The duo were celebrating the vinyl release of their The Dweller on the Threshold album, and the instrumentation for the performance matched that record's sound: synth and bowed 10-string guitar loops guide the cosmos-bound improvisation, as bells, voices, bass guitar, and subtle wind instruments color its different sections in varying floral hues. Thoroughly blissed, the sound was intended as a healing ceremony for audience and musicians alike, a piece of pastoral "virtual rurality" in the midst of the busiest metropolitan center. Having been delayed by Manhattan traffic and arriving to the gig with only seconds to spare, there was no time to set up recording gear, so the set was captured by Ash for posterity on her phone. Now lightly edited, mixed and mastered for the highest possible fidelity from this lo-fi source, we are pleased to offer "Reflections of the Samith" beyond the pink walls that once inspired and contained its celestial vibrations.
