about

“Desert Rose” is offered as an introduction to the perpetually unfolding Colander digital album, on which prolific guitarist and multi-instrumental improviser Matt LaJoie offers a peak behind the curtain at the practice and process behind many of the hundred-plus albums he has recorded and released in his lifetime. An echo of his Maia Maiestas recording project as Cursillistas in May 2008–in which he recorded a 20-minute cassette's worth of original music each day that month, releasing the tapes as one-of-one editions packaged with items gathered over the course of that day—here LaJoie endeavors to digitally release a new song, demo, improvisation, or meditative drone every weekday. A Flower Room Bandcamp & Patreon subscriber digital exclusive, some tracks will possibly be edited and collected for public release in the future, but created first and foremost as an offering for our most dedicated supporters. The intent of Colander is to demystify the creation process behind some of LaJoie's most beloved solo albums (Everlasting Spring, The Center and the Fringe, Big Air, Ashram to the Stars, Wasp Stings the Last Bitter Flavor, etc.) while providing a space to share a more intimate communion with the audience in these days without live, in-person performance.
