With Starbirthed's first regional tour on the immediate horizon, we are pleased to offer nonlocal listeners access to two past live environments that demonstrate the prolific synth & strings duo's unique take on ambient and kosmische music as performed in a live setting. These two performances, recorded at the Apohadion Theater in Portland, Maine and Union Pool in Brooklyn, New York, are an invitation to sit poolside as the sound unfolds in a full stereo field: feet shuffle to their seats; cans are cracked and bottles popped; a whispered conversation wafts over faintly on a warm breeze. Rarely is ambient music presented in its full, true, honest ambience as it is here.
"Apohadion" takes its name from both the theater where it was recorded and its literal definition of "farthest from Pluto" or "away from the underworld". Celestial synth beds bathe the surface in cosmic vibration, while electric bass generates a gravitational field around which all subsequent notes dance. The piece concludes with a wordless vocal incantation, voices looped and stacked until the sound conjures visions of an otherworldly choir. On the flip-side, "Dream Pool" (captured live by Jesse DeRosa) begins with a few sparse synth notes looped and warped to suggest a wave of cosmic debris interference or solar flare. As the sound builds to include bass and a psychically linked keyboard and 10-string acoustic guitar, the loops fold back onto themselves and reveal infinite new cooperative paths forward, one note at a time.
Despite Dream Pool's status as Starbirthed's first official live album, those familiar with their earliest Flower Room entries (Citrine Dreams; Chakra Four; Dweller On the Threshold) as well as the recent public/private sound healing companion pieces With the Mother and Starbathing, will note that many of their offerings to-date have indeed been sensitive to capturing the unique qualities of the rooms and spaces they were recorded in, as well as the energy of those present at the time. Crucially, Dream Pool differs with its aim to transport the listener inside a localized time & place with no attempt to erase the incidental contributions of those present. Those willing to dive in will be carried "there" any time by the fleet-yet-subtle current drawing these sounds from the Now.
